FAQ - Grounds for clarification
What is coffee concentrate?
A stronger coffee base, made to mix with water, milk, or ice to create your finished drink.
Why would I want coffee concentrate?
It gives you a versatile coffee base you can customise into hot or iced drinks, while controlling the strength yourself.
Why is concentrate better for iced coffee?
You start with concentrated coffee, so adding ice and milk or water builds your drink - rather than watering down coffee that's already at drinking strength.
Why does homemade iced coffee sometimes taste watery?
Hot coffee is normally brewed ready to drink. When it's poured over ice, the melting ice adds extra water and weakens the flavour.
Does CONCENTRA give a smoother-tasting coffee?
Yes. Concentrate lets you keep a full coffee flavour while controlling strength, rather than brewing a very strong hot coffee that can taste harsh or bitter.
Does concentrate mean it's strong and bitter?
No - think smooth and intense, not bitter. It's concentrated because it's designed to be diluted. You customise it with water, milk, or ice to get the strength and taste you like.
Is coffee concentrate the same as espresso?
No. They're different brewing methods. Concentrate gives you a versatile coffee base without needing an espresso machine.
What's the difference between concentrate and normal coffee?
Normal coffee is brewed ready to drink. Concentrate is deliberately stronger, so you build your finished drink around it.
Can I make iced lattes with it?
Yes - use the concentrate as your coffee base, then add cold milk and ice to taste.
Can I make hot coffee with it?
Yes - add hot water or hot milk to your concentrate. CONCENTRA itself doesn't heat the drink; you add the heat.
Can everyone in the house have a different-strength coffee?
Yes. The same coffee base can be diluted differently, so everyone gets it exactly how they like it.
What other drinks can I make?
Iced coffee, iced lattes, hot coffee, flavoured coffee, frappés, and other café-style drinks.
Is it cheaper than buying ready-made concentrate?
Yes. Making fresh concentrate at home costs less than repeatedly buying bottles of ready-made concentrate or individual coffee-shop drinks.
Do I need special coffee?
No - fine to medium ground coffee works well. A dark roast works great. Finer grounds give a stronger cup; coarser grounds give a weaker flavour.
Can I use decaf?
Yes. CONCENTRA is easy to tailor to your taste, decaf included.
Is concentrate good for desserts and cakes?
Yes - use it to add rich coffee flavour to bakes and desserts, as well as drinks.
