Homemade Gelato

Gelato is a traditional Italian dessert, made using milk, cream and sugar. Following our simple recipe and adding a variety of toppings, you can create your own Gelato easily at home. Recipe created by @thehonestdad.

Ingredients:

  • 250ml double cream
  • 750ml full fat milk
  • 175g granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp. corn starch
  • Pinch of salt
  • ½ tbsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp. liquid pectin

Topping Suggestions:

  • Cookies, crumbled
  • Chocolate chunks, broken up
  • Sprinkles
  • Chocolate spread
  • Strawberry sauce
  • Smarties

Directions:

  1. In a saucepan, over a medium heat, combine the cream and 500ml of the milk and bring to a simmer.
  2. Using the Cordless Pro Hand Blender, with the whisk attachment, whisk the remaining milk, sugar, corn starch, salt and vanilla extract in a bowl.
  3. One the milk and cream mixture has come to a simmer, add the milk and sugar mixture to the saucepan.
  4. Stir in the pectin and whisk again, until completely smooth. Cool to room temperature, then cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
  5. Once chilled, whisk the mixture and pour into the Ice Cream & Gelato Professional, with the gelato paddle fitted. Place the lid on and set the timer for 40 minutes and start to churn.
  6. With 5 minutes remaining on the timer, add some of your chosen toppings.
  7. At the end of churning, the gelato will be soft scoop. If you want a firmer gelato, place in an airtight container and chill in the fridge for several hours.
  8. Serve with more of your chosen toppings.
