Fruit Soda Bread

Servings: 1 Loaf
Cook Time: 45-50 minutes


  • 250g plain white flour
  • 250g wholemeal flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp bicarbonate soda
  • 125g sultanas
  • 400ml buttermilk
  • 1 tsp caster sugar for sprinkling on top


  1. Pre-heat the oven to 200ºC / Fan 190ºC / Gas Mark 6
  2. Place the flours, salt, bicarbonate of soda and sultanas into the Cuisinart Stand Mixer bowl. Using the dough hook, roughly combine the dry ingredients together on speed 8.
  3. Pour in the buttermilk and knead on speed 8 until the dough comes together to form a ball.
  4. Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured work surface and shape into a round loaf.
  5. Place onto a baking tray lined with baking paper. Using a large knife, score the top of the dough into quarters.
  6. Sprinkle the top of the dough with caster sugar.
  7. Bake in the pre-heated oven for 45-50 minutes, until the top of the loaf is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on its base.
